Apply to the group

The group works on real-time 3D vision and immersive media — view synthesis, plenoptic imaging, and neural rendering. I supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers at the LISA laboratory (ULB). This page explains how to apply for a PhD, a postdoc, or an internship. Please read it fully before writing to me.

PhD

I may not have funding available for a PhD position. The realistic route for most candidates is a grant-funded PhD: you identify a fund (FRIA, PDR, ERC, or a comparable programme) and write the proposal, with my involvement.

I will get involved and help with the application only if the idea convinces me and you are a strong candidate. Grant applications are hard and time-consuming to write, so I cannot take on candidates who come to me with the goal of having a grant application written. Come with a clear, well-thought idea that fits the group’s research directions (research areas) and with evidence that you can carry it out.

Postdoc

Postdoc positions are project-based, and I may not have funding available. As with PhDs, a grant-funded postdoc is the realistic route: the same conditions apply — the idea must fit the group and convince me, and I can help with the application under the same constraints as for PhDs.

Internship

Internships in Belgium are not paid. This is the default: unless there is a convention between your institution and ULB, the internship is unpaid. If such a convention exists for you, it applies, and the internship is organised under it.

   Emails whose subject does not follow this format are ignored, without reply.

2. Body: the main idea of your proposed project — a few short paragraphs are enough — and your CV (attached). Add more information only if you consider it necessary.

3. What to expect: I receive several applications, and I need to discuss each one with my team — including the long-term strategy of the group — before deciding. It may therefore take some time to get an answer. I only respond to applications that pass the first screening; no reply does not mean the idea was bad, only that it is not a fit right now.
